Claude Debussy: Clair de Lune – third movement of Suite Bergamasque as heard in the movie TWILIGHT

I am proud to bring you today’s piece of sad classical music. It is Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy. It has been used in so many contexts that I am sure almost everyone can recognise the tune by ear. Clair de Lune is actually the third movement of Debussy’s Suite bergamasque written in 1890, although it was not published until 1905. The Suite bergamasque is one of the most famous piano suites byClaude Debussy with the third and most famous movement being Clair de Lune. Interestingly, Clair de Lune means ‘moonlight’ in French – which I think fits the mood of this piece perfectly.

If you are a fan of the movie TWILIGHT you may remember hearing this piece and a reference being made to it.The piece was playing when Edward was showing Bella his room. Bella pressed play on the cd player to see what kind of music Edward was listening to. Edward remarked that it was ‘Debussy’. Bella said that she loved Clair de Lune.

My favorite CD of this piece is Debussy: Clair de lune & Other Piano Favourites sold by Amazon.com. At the time of writing this album ranks at #513 for total sales of all items in the Music category at Amazon.com giving a strong indication that a lot of people all over the world love this piece.

I hope you enjoy today’s piece of sad classical music.

Twilight can get the fuck out of my music.

To associate this music with Twilight is one of the biggest DISGRACES I have ever seen. To think that this music is appreciated by anyone who finds Twilight anything other than appalling makes my skin crawl, and my blood boil.

To think that this will be thought of as “Music from Twilight” is absolutely heart-breaking.

Twilight is, in EVERY conceivable way, every imaginable eventuality, every nuance and microscopic detail, the ABSOLUTE opposite of what this piece is, and what Debussy was; a genius.

  3. Are you serious, Twilight? says:

Twilight is garbage. A melting pot of stolen vampire ideas and lore stewed by the pale hand of poor writing.

Claire De Lune is genius and beautiful. For a website based on classical music, perhaps a classier description and example of Debussy’s master piece would fit better.

For those Twilight bashers…..geez, obviously you haven’t seen this movie or you would know that this music fits the movie, the scene and the characters perfectly. Okay, the movie isn’t THE best movie ever written but you have to remember it was written for teenage girls. This music is just beautiful and putting it in movies like this one let it be heard and appreciated by people who otherwise would’ve never heard it. Get over it, snobs.
